Gydget Flies High

A large Gydget banner featuring Universal artists will hang over the festivities on East 6th Street in Austin. Here’s how it looked on the office floor yesterday. Justin, our UI engineer, couldn’t help himself.justin2.jpg

Jamiroquai’s Gydget Feels So Good…

The Mighty JamiroquaiOur chums at Million Media in London have written a lovely blog article about UK funkster Jamiroquai’s widget called ‘Gydget Makes A Great Widget’. To quote:

“Coming out of the Widget evolutionary pool is the mighty Gydget. It takes a lot of previous widget ideas and combines them in to what could be termed a ‘Super Widget’. Not only can you insert news, photos and videos but also – and this is the clever part – link to iTunes, ticket sales or, via an extremely smart bit of forward thinking, any retailer of your choice using your own banner ads….”

Well, we’re blushing – thanks, Neil. You can read the full article here and check out Jamiroqai’s MySpace page (complete with mighty gydget) at www.myspace.com/jamiroquai

Win $1000 and increase your fan base

Encourage your fans to grab your gydget and you could win $1000. From February 20th until March 19th 2008 we want to see fans grabbing gydgets. The widget owner who is able to drive the most fan grabs for a single gydget over this period wins. Get your interns on it and split the prize! Go to your gydget promote tab for more info and to find your bulletin code. You must be an official agent of the artist/band/team shown in the gydget to win.

TIP: MySpace fan bulletins can be sent daily or weekly and can dramatically increase grab rates. (System of a Down got more than 1000 grabs in one day using bulletins.)

Get ready for MySpace Platform

MySpace Developer
MySpace is planning to roll out its developer platform in March and we are working on a great application to ensure that your gydgets are easily embedded, discovered and spread throughoutthe site. Our MySpace application uses the wide version of the gydget, (scroll down to see wide Stroke 9 example below), so please login NOW, view the wide version of your gydget and make sure that you have uploaded a wide image and defined your wide ad buttons. If you have any questions, please email info@gydget.com. We’re here to help!

NEW: Pimp out your gydget with audio and multi-video players

Audio: Gydget now supports mp3 audio files. To add mp3 files, click ‘add audio tab’ in the ‘Tabs’ tab. Type in a tab name (e.g. music) then upload your files and album art (see box below for example). You can also allow fans to download or purchase the song.

Multi-video: Gydget now supports multiple videos in one tab. Click ‘add video tab’ in the Tabs tab and name the tab. Then provide a YouTube or Sony/Musicbox video link. The title and length will be pulled in automatically. Click ‘add another video’ to add additional videos to the same tab – your widget will be updated as seen in the Stroke 9 wide gydget example below.

      New wide gydget launches

Protest The Hero - Wide Gydget

Image only – click to activate.

Longtime users will know that we released gydget.com with the ability to quickly and easily build fan widgets in October 2007. These narrow gydgets (pronounced ‘gid-jets’) were great for the left-hand column in MySpace at 250 pixels wide x 385 tall.

Today we’re pleased to announce a new wide gydget (425 pixels wide x 350 tall) packed full of gydgety goodness and perfect for MySpace’s main column.

The wide and narrow gydgets are linked, so any content you add can be reflected in both. It’s up to you to decide which version you’d like to use (one or even both) and you can set the default size on the ‘Style’ tab once you login to gydget.com

To ‘upgrade’ from the narrow gydget to to the wide, just create bigger ad buttons on the ‘Buttons’ tab and upload a bigger image on the ‘Style’ tab. We’ve also added ‘TopFriends’ at the bottom of the wide gydget – a change for your fans to meet each other and show the love. The differences are shown here and there’s more information on our FAQ page here.

To mark the launch of the wide gydget, we’ve updated this blog – stay tuned for more tips, news and information. And as always, contact us at info@gydget.com if you’d like to know more.
